Thank You for being a Friend

Song by Andrew Gold

In the heart of Clermont, a tradition born of friendship and nostalgia brought together a unique group of individuals. They are the Northwest High School class of '65, a vibrant cohort that has discovered the secret to keeping their bond alive through the decades. Dubbed the "Saturday Night Live Group," this assembly of long-time friends has a standing appointment every first Saturday of the month, a testament to their unwavering commitment to each other.

However, it's not just these monthly gatherings that keep the spirit of camaraderie burning brightly. Five years ago, they initiated an annual event that was a much-anticipated tradition, embodying the essence of their enduring friendship. Named "Thank You for Being a Friend," this campfire wiener roast was held in October, marking a time of year when the air is crisp and the leaves are ablaze with color. It's a perfect backdrop for reminiscing and making new memories.

The event took place in the Clermont Lions Club Park, transforming it into a venue of warmth and laughter. The highlight of the evening was when Ron McCann played a selection of Golden Oldies that immediately transported everyone back to their youth. The music, a mix of nostalgia and joy, prompts spontaneous dance moves, proving that though the years may pass, the spirit of the '60s remains alive and well within them.

"Thank You for Being a Friend" was more than just an annual gathering; it's a celebration of life, memories, and the enduring power of friendship. As the years have passed, the group has had to say goodbye to some of its members, making these gatherings all the more poignant. Yet, in the face of loss, their tradition stands as a beautiful tribute to those who have passed, ensuring that their spirit remains an integral part of the group.

The Saturday Night Live Group's commitment to each other demonstrated through their regular meetings and the annual "Thank You for Being a Friend" event, served as an inspiring reminder of the importance of friendship.

In a world that often feels transient and disconnected, their story is a beacon of hope, showing that true connections can withstand the test of time and become a source of joy and support.
